The Opportunity:
We have an exciting opportunity for a Commercial Sales Assistant to join our
Operations team on a fixed term contract for a year.
Taking responsibility for a portfolio of new and existing commercial waste
customers, you will promote the Council’s Waste and Recycling Services,
supporting and advising businesses to think more sustainably about waste
disposal and maximising recycling opportunities.
Playing a key part in improving customer experience and generating
additional income, you will use a pro-active sales approach to meet targets
and act as a main point of contact for customers, offering advice and
assistance on a range of queries.
You will also liaise with the Waste Management team to ensure customer
service standards are met, deal promptly with issues or queries, including
the non-collection of waste, and provide administrative support to the
Operations team.
Job Accountabilities
1. Develop and nurture effective working relationships with new and
existing commercial waste customers in person, via telephone and email
communication.
2. Gain a clear understanding of a customer’s business waste
requirements and present options to secure a new sale.
3. Ensure customers receive accurate and prompt quotations in order
for them to make an informed decision to accept the service being offered by
the Council.
4. Work closely with the waste management team to ensure that
customers needs are continually met and they are receiving the service they
have paid for.
5. Source new customers and promote the Council’s waste and recycling
services in order to achieve a new sale.
6. Negotiate the terms for a customer’s agreement including opening
and closing sales.
7. Liaise with third party suppliers as required.
8. Identify opportunities to upsell to enhance income opportunities.
9. Daily proactive contact of existing customer base and potential
customers, maintaining records on Collective to ensure effective customer
relationship management.
10. Work to specific income targets as set by line manager to meet the
needs of the customer and business.
11. Provide administrative support to the Contracts & Projects
Manager. Specific tasks to be allocated on a daily basis to meet customer
needs and demands.
12. To take the lead in contact management to provide regular and
effective solutions for customer, whilst opportunity spotting to generate
income/make recommendations across services. This is face to face or cold
calling.
13. Maintaining accuracy and ensuring that deadlines are met.
14. Organise meetings, prepare agenda and take minutes for meetings as
directed by the Contracts & Projects Manager.
15. Develop and maintain various departmental information systems, e.g.
databases, spread sheets, ensuring that up-to-date information is recorded.
16. Raise orders using eProcurement and process invoices.
17. Take a lead role in the delivery of specific activities (to be
determined by the Contracts & Projects Manager).
18. Provide information, as required to enable annual and statutory
returns to be completed.
19. Assist in relief duties in the absence of colleagues within the
Business Support Team.
20. General Administration duties as directed by line manager.
About You:
With proven sales experience, you will have great negotiation, interpersonal
and communication skills, especially with telephone and face to face sales
interviews.
You will be confident, self-motivated and proactive, with good team-working
and organisational skills, along with experience of working in a busy office
and the ability to respond positively to changing and conflicting
priorities.
You will also be keen to meet customers and be able to develop and maintain
excellent working relationships.
A full, clean driving licence and access to your own vehicle is an
essential requirement for this role.
